Synopsis: It’s the year 2055 and an anarchist organization has taken control with the aim to create a world-class society. Half of humankind is unknowingly living in an alternate reality called Dormance . . . and there are no plans to wake them up.

Sixteen-year-old introvert Emery Parker is one such dormant. An academic scholar who avoids ruffling feathers at all costs, Emery finds herself being transferred to a boarding school on the outskirts of Arizona. Little does she know, a family secret has the power to change the course of the future. When she’s approached with an opportunity to free the dormants, she sees no other choice but to accept, even though failure could mean having her memory wiped clean.

But when tech-savvy Torin Porter reaches out to her from the other side, Emery begins to question everything she was told about Dormance. If her family’s secret falls into the wrong hands, the world as she knows it will be faced with irreversible consequences. Now Emery must play both sides to uncover the truth about her family’s past or risk leaving mankind to live in an unconscious reality.

Hey guys! I’m so sorry I haven’t been posting much. My anxiety has been pretty bad the last few months. Last month it was horrible. I’m not sure, but I think I’m finally over the worst of it, but I can’t be 100% sure. I can be fine one minute and the next I’m freaking out because something triggered my anxiety. Needless to say I haven’t really been reading. I tried but most times I couldn’t sit still or I just wasn’t taking anything in. I did manage to read one book since my last update (April 18th). I want to start reading and blogging more. I’ve really missed it. However, I’m not going to make any promises. I don’t want to say I’m back when I don’t know what the next little while will be like. I will do my best. For a bit of good news, MY BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW!

My Bookish Birthday Wishes!

descriptiondescriptiondescription
Well, it’s not  my birthday yet. My birthday is on Tuesday (May 10th) and since I didn’t get anything last year (my birthday was pretty much forgotten), I’m guessing I wont be getting anything this year. However, I still thought it would be fun to share with you guys what books I would love to get. These are just some of the books I am dying to get my hands on. If my parents surprised me with one or two of these books, I would be so happy. So parents, even though I’m sure you don’t read my blog….*hint hint* 😉

Yesterday I  went to the city with my mom and my cousin and when we picked up my cousin, the very first thing she said to me was that she had a surprise for me. She surprised me with books. One of them is signed and the other one she knew was on my wish list. 🙂

The Sleep Room Frank Tallis

The Sleep Room by Frank Tallis

Synopsis: When promising young psychiatrist James Richardson is offered the job opportunity of a lifetime by the charismatic Dr. Hugh Maitland, he is thrilled. Setting off to take up his post at Wyldehope Hall in deepest Suffolk, Richardson doesn’t look back. One of his tasks is to manage Maitland’s most controversial project–a pioneering therapy in which extremely disturbed patients are kept asleep for months. If this radical and potentially dangerous procedure is successful, it could mean professional glory for both doctors.

As Richardson settles into his new life, he begins to sense something uncanny about the sleeping patients–six women, forsaken by society. Why is Maitland unwilling to discuss their past lives? Why is the trainee nurse so on edge when she spends nights alone with them? And what can it mean when all the sleepers start dreaming at the same time? In this atmospheric reinvention of the ghost story, Richardson finds himself questioning everything he knows about the human mind, as he attempts to uncover the shocking secrets of The Sleep Room . . .

The Hatching Ezekiel BooneThe Hatching (The Hatching, #1) by Ezekiel Boone

Details: Hardcover, 320 pages
Expected publication: July 5th 2016 by Random House Canada
Buy it: Book Depository

Summary: An astonishingly inventive and terrifying debut horror novel about the emergence of an ancient race of carnivorous spiders, dormant for ten thousand years but now very much awake. There’s a reason we’re afraid of spiders…

A local guide is leading wealthy tourists through a forest in Peru when a strange, black, skittering mass engulfs him and most of the party. FBI Agent Mike Rich is on a routine stake out in Minneapolis when he’s suddenly called by the director himself to investigate a mysterious plane crash. A scientist studying earthquakes in India registers an unprecedented pattern in local seismic readings. The US president, her defence and national security advisers and her chief of staff are dumped into crisis mode when China “accidentally” drops a nuclear bomb on a desolate region of its own country. As such unsettling occurrences mount, the president’s old friend (and her chief of staff’s ex-wife), spider expert Melanie Guyer, receives a box at her lab at American University that contains an ancient egg unearthed at a South American dig.

So begins The Hatching, the hair-raising saga of a single week in which an ancient, frighteningly predatory species of spider re-emerges in force. When the unusual egg in Melanie Guyer’s lab begins to vibrate and crack, she finds herself at the epicentre of this apocalyptic natural disaster. Working closely with her ex-husband and his very powerful boss, she has to find some way to stem the brutal tide of man-eating arachnids.
